Who you gonna call? Colorado Ghostbusters! A volunteer organization raising funds for kids
IT A/V Technology Specialist Jeramiah Friesen combines tech and creativity during his workday in the Hub Thompson Conference Center's AV booth. As it turns out, he's also a superhero on the side, volunteering for Colorado Ghostbusters (COGB), having spent his July 4th weekend at Fan Expo Denver 2025, the largest Con in Denver.
COBG is a franchise organization sanctioned by Sony and their subsidiary, Ghost Corps, with the goals of community outreach, promotions, and charity fundraising. The Fan Expo weekend took over what used to be Denver Comic Con and is the largest event of the year for the Ghostbusters. Friesen said, “This is the best place for us to promote our fundraising campaign on behalf of Starlight Children’s Foundation. The organization's mission is to make hospitals an easier place for kids to be by delivering programs that ease fear, distract from pain, and spark joy.”

Friesen answers a few questions about his volunteer experience below. You can learn about COGB on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
Who are the Colorado Ghostbusters?
The group is cosplayers on a mission. The original concept was doing events like visiting kids in the hospital dressed as Ghostbusters. Through this organization, we do many events throughout the year and it’s always a good time meeting fans, taking pictures, and talking about the movies (as well as my car).
What is cosplaying?
Cosplaying is live theater. It takes me back to my theater days in high school and college where we made costumes, props, set pieces, etc. and told our audiences a story. Through the Ghostbusters, I’m doing the same thing. I have a character (and not one from the movies), I have my uniform, and my ghostbusting equipment. Now, I can meet with people and tell my story, then I get to turn that around in a way that helps children with serious illnesses.
How do you encourage others to volunteer?
Find something fun, something you enjoy. There’s likely an organization that’s improving the world doing those things, it might just take being a little creative. They say, “if you enjoy what you do, you never work a day in your life.” The same can be said for volunteering: do it for an organization you believe in, or via something you love to do, and you can improve the world through your passion.
More about Starlight Children's Foundation
Their programs include deliveries of toys, games, video consoles, and fun hospital gowns. The gowns are the heart of COGB’s campaign. One of the most stressful experiences of a child's hospital journey is transitioning from their personal clothes into a hospital gown. Starlight is able to partner with the likes of Disney, Nintendo, Lego, among others to make fun gowns that belong to the kids. It’s just a small way to improve their experience.
