Tri-State statement on La Plata Electric Association board action
(July 2, 2019 – Westminster, Colo.) Tri-State Chairman and President Rick Gordon (Mountain View Electric Association, Limon, Colo.) made the following statement on the La Plata Electric Association Board of Directors action regarding the wholesale electric service contract with Tri-State.
“When a member requests information on the value of their wholesale power contract with the association, Tri-State has a process in place to provide such information.
We believe our membership’s vision for Tri-State is closely aligned with La Plata Electric Association’s laudable goals to be cleaner and lower costs. In June, our board resolved to pursue an aggressive plan to increase renewables and reduce emissions while striving to lower the association’s wholesale rate.
In addition, a contract committee of our membership is currently considering proposals to our board of directors that will provide all of our members additional flexibility, including partial requirements contracts that can help members meet their goals for local renewable energy development.
As a cooperative, our members govern Tri-State to deliver value to all of our members, and we look forward to demonstrating our commitment to meet LPEA’s and our other members’ needs within our not-for-profit cooperative business model.”
