We’re a different sort of power provider

At our core is the belief that cooperatives deliver more value with our electricity because we are built by and for our member distribution cooperatives and public power districts, to power what matters to them. Our members have asked for cleaner, more affordable and more flexible power, so we're delivering, adding more value than ever before. Whatever the future holds, we'll power it.

There’s a lot that goes into powering our communities, and there have always been good reasons to share the benefits, costs, risks and obligations of electricity generation and transmission, especially as technology and our industry have changed. These are some of the key ways we deliver value while delivering on our mission to our members.

What it means to be a member

At Tri-State, we’re not just an electric utility, we’re a network. Together, with our members, we work to balance our resources to generate electricity reliably, affordably, and responsibly. As a cooperative, we don’t answer to shareholders, we answer to our neighbors. We work together. From supporting each other in times of need to access to low-cost utility-scale renewables, membership in Tri-State delivers more value today than ever before. Find out how our cooperative business model is better.

Member-driven, not profit-driven

Collectively, our members’ service territories create the largest electric cooperative footprint in the U.S, and our members’ needs are just as diverse as the communities they serve. Each one of our members has a voice and it’s our job to deliver on their priorities. And since we are built by and for our members, affordability is a central part of our mission. We keep our margins low and return patronage capital to our members, while supporting a culture of generosity and support for our communities.

Cooperative renewables

By 2024, over 50% of the energy our members use will come from renewable resources, and we’re not stopping there. As a cooperative, we’re able to secure low-cost utility-scale renewable energy from the sun, wind and water near you while supporting member flexibility for local generation projects in your communities.

Innovative programs

Our industry is changing, but we’re here to lead the charge. We invest in innovation and programs aimed at saving you money and reducing emissions. We’re expanding beneficial electrification - the use of clean, low-cost electric alternatives (i.e. electric vehicles, electric heat pumps, electric lawnmowers) as well as providing energy efficiency rebates and piloting innovative technology projects.
