Tri-State evaluating plans for Colowyo Mine
-
No decision has been made regarding the end of coal production.
(June 14, 2024, Westminster, Colo.) Tri-State continues to evaluate plans for the Colowyo Mine and has not yet set a date to end coal production at the mine.
The mine produces coal that is used at Craig Station, which will be retired in a phased approach between 2025 and September 2028. The reduced need for coal at Craig Station will ultimately result in the end of coal production at Colowyo Mine. The date to end coal production will be based on several factors, including market and operational conditions.
Employees at the mine currently produce coal and perform reclamation activities. When coal production ceases, the mine will shift to reclamation activities, which will continue for several years.
Tri-State will continue to collaborate with local and state stakeholders to share information as operations eventually end at Craig Station and Colowyo Mine.
